Situation

Rio Tinto’s existing GTU (Gravity Take-up) located at Tom Price High Grade Mine Processing Plant was nearing its end of life.

Following a recent study, it was determined the condition of the GTU did not meet the current safety requirements and an upgrade was to be completed.

Solution

Aerison were engaged as the primary contractor to deliver the supply, manufacture, delivery, installation, commissioning, and deconstruction of GTU rectification works on the 4M conveyor.

The scope included:

• Install new winch, controls, new take-up mass, reeving system, pulley removal frame, isolation pins, new platform, monorail and hoist, modify structure and guarding. Demolish old gravity takeup, reeving system and take-up mass.
• Design, drawings and 3D models for 4M GTU upgrade work including winches, sheaves and all associated components.
• Take-up winch and all associated components for winch operation.
• Power and control cabling between the winch control panel, pendant storage panel and winch.

Project highlights:

• The tie in during the shutdown was completed ahead of time.
